The foundation stone of the college was laid by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Sj. Naveen Patnaik on 4th July 2015. The College building construction was completed in 2017. This Medical college was built with an aim to improve the doctor-population ratio by utilizing the District Head Quarter Hospital as the teaching hospital. The College campus spreads over a sprawling area of 25.6 Acres on the way to Puri-Konark Marine road. The present teaching hospital (erstwhile DHH )spreads over an area of 12 Acres and is situated in the main town of Puri around 8 km away from the College campus. Shri Jagannath Medical College is building its own teaching hospital on 8 acres of the area adjacent to the college and this is expected to be completed in 2024.
