The foundation stone of the college was laid by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Sj. Naveen Pattnaik on 02 Nov 2016. This Medical college was built with an aim to improve the doctor population ratio by utilizing the District Head Quarter Hospital, Keonjhar as the teaching hospital. The College campus spreads over a sprawling area of 44.40 Acres. The present teaching hospital (DHH, Keonjhar) is situated in the main town of Keonjhar around 5 Kms away from the College campus. Government Medical College & Hospital Keonjhar has its own building of teaching hospital adjacent to the medical college. District Headquarter Hospital (DHH), Keonjhar has capacity of 385 beds distributed among various clinical departments to cater the health services of the district as well as nearby district. The Government Medical College and hospital, Keonjhar has the intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats per year with 500 bedded teaching hospital. Apart from this, it also has 650 capacity auditorium, external development including parking, sports facilities, roads, drains, landscaping, Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Water Treatment Plant (WTP), Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) etc.
