About Government Medical College Haldwani

The populace of this region has time and again made a demand for setting-up of a Medical College in Haldwani. As a result, the State Govt. decided to set up a state-of-the-art Medical College in Haldwani under the auspices of the Uttarakhand Forest Hospital Trust, Haldwani. The college is located at the foothill of Nainital in the city of Haldwani.

 

The foundation of Medical College was laid by Shri Romesh Bhandari, the then Hon’ble Governor of U.P. on 19th March 1997.  Approximately 90 acres of land have been acquired for this purpose.

 

With this background the UFHT Medical College started in 2004-05 with its first intake of 100 MBBS students. Since then its journey has been continuous and in the span of just five years it has bloomed up into a full fledged recognized College. It is manned and managed by highly qualified and dedicated senior professors and professionals of repute in their respective fields providing medical services of excellence to the people of Uttarakhand.

 

By the Notification No. 487 /XXVIII(1)/2010-08(3)/2009 dated  April 30, 2010 of Govt. of Uttarakhand “Uttarakhand Forest Hospital Trust” has been dissolved & all the five Institutions operational under the Trust have been taken over by  Department of Medical Education, Govt. of Uttarakhand to work as Government Medical College, Haldwani from May 1, 2010.

Government  Medical College, Haldwani is the First Post Graduate  college in Uttarakhand, recognised by Medical Council of India & Government of India. The Medical college houses the departments (Pre & Para Clinical) of Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Pathology, Forensic Medicine, Social & Preventive Medicine and Biochemistry and the laboratories for under graduate students are on par with International standards. In addition to this the College has 600-bedded teaching Hospital under its gamut, which is a referral Hospital for the Kumaon region. The Hospital provides facility for Clinical Departments. The Hospital provides Quality Health Care Services at govt. prescribed rates and provides free treatment to the BPL patients of the state.

Sophisticated modern Equipments has been installed in the Hospital and College, with modern Central Library which offers computerized service and also offers computer based literature searches permitting access to data bases such as MEDLINE, Health Plan-CD, CINHAL-CD, Cancer-CD, Psyclit, AIDSLINE, ERIC, SPORT Discuss and many other CD-ROM programmes. The college will be one of the best Medical Colleges in India. In addition the Hospital services are fully automated and provides Tele-Medicine facility for the Doctor and other professional staff for keeping them abreast with latest developments in respective fields.
