Kerala State Co-operative Hospital Complex and Centre for Advanced Medical Services Ltd. No. 4386 (KCHC), which was a Co-operative Society registered under Kerala Co-operative Societies Act 1969, (Registration No is 4386) and the date of registration as 26.03.1993, with an objective to establish a full-fledged hospital with modern medical facilities and provide educational facilities.
The Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME), Pariyaram was registered under Societies Registration Act in 17.09.1993. Institutions such as Medical College, Dental College, Nursing College, Nursing school, Pharmacy College, Public School and Sahakarana Hrudayalaya were functioning under the governance of ACME.
In tune with Government of Kerala’s concept to have a Government Medical College in each district for providing enhanced treatment and boost quality medical education in Kerala, on 05.12.2016, the Hon Chief Minister of Kerala, Sri. Pinarayi Vijayan convened a meeting and decided to take over the Kerala State Co-operative Hospital Complex and Centre for Advanced Medical Services Ltd. No. 4386 and Academy of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram (Pariyaram Medical College).
As per Ordinance no 33/2018 dated 14.04.2018, the Government of Kerala had taken over the management of the Pariyaram medical college. A Board of Control chaired by the District Collector and two other members was given the charge of the administration of the institution
As per the Ordinance no 20/2019 dated 02.03.2019 by the Government of Kerala the take-over of the institution was complete. The erstwhile KCHC & ACME are renamed as “Government Medical College Kannur” under the control of Director of Medical Education, Kerala as per GO (rt) no 44/2019 H&FW dated 18.03.2019 & GO no 55/2019 dated 08.04.2019.
