About Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB)

The Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) was established as an independent entity on 8th December 1980 and the Department of Psychiatry of the Goa Medical College was amalgamated into one single Department of the Government at Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour.

The IPHB was shifted from Altinho, Panaji to a newly built premises admeasuring 27.6 Hect. of land on 28th May 2001, in close proximity with the tertiary care hospital, Goa Medical College, Bambolim Goa.

The various facilities provided by IPHB includes:

  • a. 190 Nos. bed In-Patient Unit.
  • b. Active Outpatient Department (OPD).
  • c. The Specialised clinics like Child & Adolescent Clinic.
  • d. A follow up clinic with 24 Hrs. emergency care in casualty.
  • e. A Community out reach clinic at Primary Health Centres (PHC). Geriatric Centre, Home for destitute run by Association of Social Health and monthly visits at Central Jail, Aguada.

IPHB has two Clinical Units of 95 beds each for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree and Diploma courses like MD & DPM approved by Medical Council of India. IPHB has three post graduate guides recognized by the Goa University. Besides imparting lectures in Psychiatry to Under-Graduate/MBBS Students of Goa Medical College, lectures in Post Basic B.Sc. to the Nursing students of the Goa Institute of Nursing Education and Private Nursing Institutions are also conducted by IPHB. IPHB also undertakes training in clinical psychology to M.A. (Psychology) students of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa.
